European Testing Centre (ETC)
|
Giti has made a significant investment in a European tyre testing facility, hosted at the internationally acclaimed MIRA Ltd Proving Ground, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, just outside Birmingham, UK. (previously called Motor Industry Research Association).
The ETC technical operation provides development and evaluation capacity to GITI's Tire Research and Development Centre.ETC is employed in the development of tyre products for both European and worldwide applications for both replacement and original equipment markets.
The staffing of ETC is made out of very experienced tyre testing and development staff, which has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in this area.
|
|
The main Responsibilities of the ETC are:
- Final sign-off evaluation of the tyre products that have been assigned for testing at ETC
- Evaluation at the ETC Proving Grounds and other remote locations on a global basis.
- Original Equipment engineering liaison with vehicle manufacturers on a global basis
- Advisors to R & D centres in China & Indonesia on tire design & O.E. matters
- Design and development of new global test facilities, test equipment & methodology
- Training of R & D and evaluation staff in tire design, development and testing
|
|
ETC is unique in that it provides the widest range of testing facilities and laboratories for the development of tyres for all types of vehicles. It has numerous different outside test tracks.
The main activities for current developments takes place at Handling and Stability circuit, High Speed circuit, Ride and Handling circuit, Wet handling, braking and cornering facility, various noise and resonance surfaces and obstacles including a ISO external noise measurement to EC2001/43 Directive.
|
|
For off road tyres, the centre has numerous tracks suitable for off-road and rally tyre development.
The centre has unique capabilities in controlled environment testing of tyre and vehicle vibration and noise, by using an indoor facility equipped with a Vehicle Semi-Anechoic Chassis Dynamometer. Here studies can be made on individual tyres or complete vehicles, depending on the study to be made.
The centre also offers highly experienced engineering for tyre and vehicle dynamics developments, using simulation and on-vehicle testing - Multi-body dynamic simulations such as ADAMS + Matlab/Simulink...etc.

Giti will continue to expand and grow the activity in developing products to local market needs. Europe has already the most stringent legislative requirements for tyres, which will be significantly higher and more demanding from 2012. The European tyre customers are the highest performance oriented in the world.
By investing in the European tyre testing and development capabilities, Giti is committed to remain and grow our presence in the European replacement and OEM market, by offering high performing tyres in all categories at affordable prices.
