The 2022 series will take place in the UAE, bringing together top drivers from around the world, as 2021 F3 Asia winner Zhou prepares for his F1 spot on Alfa Romeo.
Through all the challenges for in-person racing during the past couple years, the Formula 3 (F3) Asian Championship Certified by FIA is among the very few series globally to not have missed any driving time due to the pandemic. This is the result of smart planning, as well as a winter racing schedule that provides a terrific opportunity for top drivers to enter leading racing competition during a traditionally low season. Now Giti will return with the series as a key sponsor and full tire provider for the 2022 season from January-February 2022.
At the same time, the series has demonstrated its credibility through the elevation of 2021 series champion Guanyu Zhou to Formula 1 action. Zhou – a 22-year old racing success story from Shanghai, China - will join the Alfa Romeo team. He follows recent F3 Asia successes, including Pietro Fittipaldi and Nikita Mazepin, who have moved on to participate in F1 action during the past three seasons, as well as numerous competitors that have joined the F2 field. This is a strong validation of the series quality, as well as the strength of Giti tires, which all drivers utilize on their vehicles for all the races.
The 2022 series will kick-off on January 21-22 at the elite Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, following pre-season testing. Next up will bring three consecutive weekends at the popular Dubai Autodrome in Dubai, followed by the close-out race on February 18-19. This schedule is similar to the highly successful 2021 campaign, which was held safely and efficiently bringing in drivers and teams from various locations. The challenges faced from the travel restrictions and safety protocols have also helped the F3 Asia series adapt quickly to digitalization. This includes the ability to stream each and every race online, allowing viewers to follow the action wherever they are in the world. While the series was closed to the public in 2021, the coming season looks to bring back fans in person for a fun and exciting family experience.
All 29 drivers and top class formula cars in the F3 Asia series will use GitiCompete GTR1 tires. These are engineered with Giti’s global R&D team and AdvanZtech proprietary technology to especially adapt to FIA’s strict and demanding Formula requirements. In the past, the F3 action has brought Giti and these drivers to spectacular race tracks in Malaysia, China, Thailand, Japan, and others. While the 2022 will again limit action to the UAE due to continued travel difficulties, the series looks forward to opening back up to more locations in 2023.
Giti’s participation includes branding, as well as a full motorsports team at each racing event to support the teams and service them to achieve their top success. As the racetrack is the ultimate proving ground for tires, Giti Tire also utilizes to test and tires in the roughest racing environments, and continue to grow its technological skills.
